In this video I share a few tips that may help you in the installation of a rear main crankshaft seal on a Ford Duratch 2.0L He Ti-VCT engine. The first tip is to use the special tool to install the rear main crankshaft seal. It is difficult to get this seal in place without it. Second tip is to place the seal on the special tool so that the lip of the seal protrudes inward toward the engine when the seal is slid into place. It is a common thought that the lip of the seal is supposed to protrude outward away from the engine. This is not correct and the seal is likely to leak if installed incorrectly. Third tip is to replace the flex plate bolts with new bolts that have sealant on them. The bolt holes that go through the back of the crankshaft actually go all the way through and oil could potentially leak from the bolts if they are not replaced with the proper bolts.

Note: Placing a small amount on the special tool where the seal sits on the tool before placing the seal on the special tool. This helps the seal go on a bit easier.

Note: Important information on how to properly and safely lift and support your vehicle was not gone over in this video.

Note: As mentioned in this video this is not a complete "how to" video explaining every detail of the process of removing and installing the rear main seal. There are many things that you need to know before replacing this component. The transmission will have to come out in order to replace this component. Please refer to a reputable repair manual for instruction on how to properly and safely replace the rear main seal.
