Great Coffee Shops: Kope Hya Tai Kee

Bangkok boasts only a few traditional shophouse-style coffee shops, but there are indeed some hidden gems. Nestled just a stone's throw away from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration City Hall, across the expansive square that encircles the iconic Giant Swing, you'll find Kope Hya Tai Ke (โกปี๊เฮี๊ยะไถ่กี่), a charming Chinese-style coffee shop with a rich historical heritage. Established in 1952, Kope Hya Tai Ke has undergone several renovations over the years, resulting in a modern and pristine ambiance while still retaining its traditional essence. In the past, Kope Hya Tai Ke (โกปี๊เฮี๊ยะไถ่กี่) served as a hub for conversations, political discussions, and community gatherings. Although it may not be the same prominent gathering place for Chinese men as it once was, it stands as a legendary and nostalgic tribute to its historical significance.
