Here's a basic recipe for Lahori Chicken Biryani:

Ingredients:

For Marinating Chicken:
- 500g chicken, cut into pieces
- 1 cup yogurt
- 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp oil

For Rice:
- 2 cups Basmati rice
- 4-5 cups water
- 2-3 green cardamom pods
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2-3 cloves
- 1 bay leaf
- Salt to taste

For Biryani:
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 2-3 green chilies, slit
- 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves
- 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves
- 1/4 cup fried onions (for garnish)
- Saffron strands soaked in 2 tbsp warm milk (optional)
- Ghee or oil for cooking

Instructions:

1. Marinate the chicken: In a bowl, combine yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, salt, and oil. Add the chicken pieces, coat them well, and let it marinate for at least 2 hours.

2. Cook the rice: Wash and soak the rice for 30 minutes. In a large pot, bring water to a boil, add rice, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, bay leaf, and salt. Cook until the rice is 70% cooked. Drain and set aside.

3. Fry onions: Heat ghee or oil in a pan and fry the thinly sliced onions until they are brown and crispy. Remove and set aside.

4. Layer the biryani: In a heavy-bottomed pan, add a layer of marinated chicken, followed by a layer of cooked rice. Add chopped tomatoes, green chilies, coriander, and mint leaves. Repeat the process until all the chicken and rice are used.

5. Garnish: Sprinkle fried onions on top and drizzle saffron milk for an extra layer of flavor (optional).

6. Dum cooking: Cover the pan with a tight-fitting lid or seal it with dough to trap steam. Cook on low heat for about 20-25 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked and the flavors meld together.

7. Serve hot: Lahori Chicken Biryani is ready to be enjoyed with raita or a side salad.

Feel free to adjust the spice level to your taste. Enjoy your homemade Lahori Chicken Biryani!
