The world's largest living organism is a fungus in Oregon that is over 2,300 acres in size and over 2,400 years old. It is known as the "Humongous Fungus" and is a species called Armillaria Ostoyae.

Armillaria Ostoyae is a parasitic fungus that attacks the roots of trees. It can spread underground for many miles, forming a single massive organism. The Humongous Fungus is estimated to weigh over 35,000 tons, making it the largest living organism on Earth.

Scientists discovered the Humongous Fungus in the 1990s. They were studying tree mortality in the Malheur National Forest when they noticed that large areas of forest were dying due to a fungal infection. They eventually traced the infection back to a single Armillaria Ostoyae organism.

It is a reminder of the inter connectedness of life and the power of nature.
