Desperate times may not require desperate measures, but they definitely encourage them. Said a little differently, when you’re sinking in a sea of desperation and someone throws you a lifeline, you don’t take a lot of time inspecting the rope; you grab on and don’t let go. When I grabbed hold, I could never have guessed all the directions in which I would be dragged. I’m betting you won’t be able to either. And when you finally wash up on shore, as I did, I think you’ll find that the final truths — and whether you enjoyed the journey — will largely depend on your perspective.
