Merzouga is a small town located in the Sahara Desert in the south of Morocco. It's known as the gateway to the Erg Chebbi sand dunes at the edge of town, consisting of soaring peaks of sand that change color with the shifting light of dawn and dusk. The most authentic way to experience the desert is on camelback, including an overnight stay at a desert camp. Many companies offer such trips, but they vary greatly in cost, comfort, and experience.
