Who Will Be The Next House Speaker?

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) has endorsed Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) for Speaker of the House, a big victory for the Floridian as he assembles a regional and ideological bloc of support.

Roy and Donalds are members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, where Roy serves as the policy chair. Among House conservatives, Roy is among the most consistent voices on conservative networks and has served as a spending deal negotiator inside the Republican conference.

A Florida grand jury scathed the Office of Refugee Resettlement, also known as ORR, for following purportedly flawed procedural steps when handling unaccompanied children.

The statewide grand jury was created to examine international human smuggling networks, after the DeSantis administration’s request in 2022.

Florida House and Senate Republican leadership announced Friday that the upcoming special session would address tax relief following Hurricane Idalia and the expansion of a resiliency housing program.

Other topics expected to be addressed during the Nov. 6-9 session consist of sanctions against Iran, support for Israel, more security for Jewish Day Schools and funding for students with unique abilities.
