Hamas leader holds talks with top Iranian official

Hamas’ leader and a high-ranking Iranian official engaged in talks last night amidst increasing concerns that the Israel-Gaza conflict could escalate into a broader Middle East confrontation.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian held a phone conversation with Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas, and Ziyad al-Nakhala, the head of Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

They discussed ways to halt what he referred to as Israel’s ‘severe actions’ in Gaza, the Daily Mail reported.
