Fall Foraging on the Homestead: Harvesting Black Walnuts, Passion Fruit, Hickory & Acorn Nuts

Sharon here! It's almost fall and the hickory nuts on our wooded homestead are just starting to drop. The race is on to find them before the squirrels and chipmunks do! Take a ride with me as take you deep in the woods and show you some beautiful nature scenery and teach you what I learned (the hard way) about the different types of hickory's we have on our property. Oh, and also on today's wooded adventure I will be picking some black walnuts, some passion fruits, aka 'Maypops' and some Red Oak acorns and start to prepare them for human consumption and use! I've been learning a lot about maximizing the usefulness of our Southern Illinois property so come along and join me for the learning adventure and fresh air! The fall like weather has me wanting to stay in the woods all day enjoying the sights and sounds of birds, wildflowers, mushrooms, elderberry and so much more.
