The songs and poetry in The Lord of the Rings contain the deepest lore and the most poignant references to his legendarium. And many were completely excised from the film.

Maybe they didn't fit. Maybe Jackson didn't like them. Maybe it slowed down the movie. Maybe it was done for "Modern Audiences".
