What the heck is Dyneema?

What the heck is Dyneema? I hear it all the time. Its a relatively new super fabric that's used mostly in the outdoor sports like hiking, camping, climbing, but also used in bullet proof and stab proof vests. Dyneema is a synthetic material that is a unidirectional laminate made of two layers of extended chain polyethylene filament tows, cross plied and sandwiched in a thermoplastic film. Its also called Cuben, UHMWPE, and even Spectra.
