Total US Aid Sent Since 1946 | James Eagle

US foreign aid can start some heated debates. Ukraine is in the spotlight now, although the true numbers spent by the US government on the conflict haven't fully filtered into this dataset. There seems to be a lag of a couple of years from pledges to actual distribution. Nevertheless, you can clearly see the story unfolding from 1946 to the present in this data visualization.

Here's what James Eagle noticed:

1. Aid often goes to countries the US was at war with (afterward of cause)
2. Aid goes to geopolitical allies that the US needs
3. The US actually spends very little on aid – $2.5 trillion since 1946 is a fraction of the $26 trillion the US economy outputs annually.
