October 22, 2023, Mark 5:21-34, "The Healing Power of Jesus, Part 1" (Live)

Streamed on:

[Jesus, accessible to everyone.]
Mark 5:21-26, Jesus came to both the dying 12-year old daughter of a respected ruler (Jairus) in the synagogue AND a woman rejected by society with a 12-year illness
Mark 5:21-23, Jairus was an administrator of a synagogue, was well respected for his duties, but when he saw Jesus, he came directly to Jesus Christ's feet, for he was more concerned with the truth of who Jesus was and how He (Jesus Christ) would heal his (Jairus') daughter, and less concerned with the increasing persecution from the Pharisees and Sadducees on those who came to Jesus Christ; this is faith
Mark 5:24, and then Jesus went with Jairus to his house to see his daughter, and a large crowd began to swarm Him, but on the way there...
Mark 5:25-26, Jesus encountered a woman who had been sick for 12 years, which would mean she had this illness since the approximate age of Jesus in His twenties

[Jesus, available and intimate.]
Mark 5:26, this woman had already given everything up to seek a cure for her issue (Leviticus 15, issue of her blood, discharge), and there was some evidence to suggest she was a widow
Mark 5:2-28, this woman desired to just simply touch the edge of Jesus' garment (no need for any special act or prayer), believing wholeheartedly that she would be finally cured
Leviticus 15:19-27, the issue of blood (discharge of blood) separated a woman from the rest (made her unclean), until she became clean. If she would violate the separation and spread her illness to other people, then she would be committing sin. The separation included exclusion from the synagogue, from any occupation/job, from her own husband, and society.
Mark 5:26-27, IF the woman with the issue of 12 years had to contact several people in the crowd to reach Jesus, then the act would be sinning in the Levitical law (spreading her sin/disease)
Mark 5:27-29, whatever it took, in faith, the woman approached Jesus to touch the helm of His garment, and immediately she became cleansed and healed when she touched Him (clean means clean from all of her sin, including the sin that spread to others)

[Jesus' power is personal.]
Mark 5:30-32, of the hundreds of people crowding around Jesus, He himself turned to ask who touched Him, which means He stopped to have a special acknowledgment of the woman who reached out to Him
Mark 5:33, the woman confessed to Christ, in respectful holy fear for she knew naturally she was unworthy before the presence of God (sin cannot stand before God), that she touched Him and why (including how she potentially broke or did break the Levitical law).
Mark 5:34, Jesus told her that her faith in Him has made her well, and that she just became a member of the family of God (He called her "Daughter"); this was the saving grace of Jesus Christ that was given, which made it possible for even this woman to come into the presence of God, rather than having her remain eternally ill and come into the presence of everlasting judgment and wrath
