Abandoned world

Main question of today - why we live in sities with so high density if we have so many abandoned buildings, including pre-flood (before cataclysm) buildings. Who or what is directing us live in sities, leaving huge areas uninhabitated and wild? What is the difference of architecture of the past and modern and why we do not use the "previous" way of construction and living style?
Video is a bit slappy, not everything is like i wanted to, but time is short and i can not make simple movie for more than 1 day... but i hope that i gave you the main idea.
