The Hidden Gem of Roan Mtn: Rediscovering Cloudland Trail's Beauty and History

On Friday May 26, 2023 (my 19th anniversary!) my wife and I decided to head to Roan Mountain State Park for the day and hike the Cloudland Trail (as the upper day use area of the park opened for the season on that very day!).

The last time we did this trail was in September 2021 and we nearly froze to death as the wind was kicking at 50+ MPH and at 6,200 feet in elevation, it was cold!

This time was much nicer and we hiked in from the access road which made it a short half mile hike. We then checked out the Rhododendron Gardens. These should bloom in mid to late June. Lastly, we walked to the old Cloudland Hotel site to peek at the ruins.
