Egypt Erupts for Gaza: Tahrir Square Protests First In a Decade
Protesters reclaimed Tahrir Square for the first time in a decade last night, expressing solidarity with the people of Gaza. Egyptian authorities detained 43 demonstrators.
Why Is This Major?
Tahrir Square is a significant public plaza in downtown Cairo. It gained prominence during the 2011 Egyptian revolution against President Hosni Mubarak, a pivotal moment in the Arab Spring.
When the Government was toppled due to the protests, Tahrir Square became synonymous with major political change.
