“Who Do You Believe?”
28th In our series the Epistle of 2nd Peter

I. Peter’s Two Epistles were inspired by God - 2 Peter 3:1
* A. Inspiration means the Holy Spirit carried along the writer so that what he wrote was exactly what God wanted recorded - 2 Peter 1:18-21
* 1. Just as Peter heard God speak audibly on the Mount of Transfiguration, so God has inspired the Scriptures
* a. The Bible is God’s special revelation to man
* b. It is God breathed - 2 Timothy 3:16-17
* c. The human authors were so controlled by the Holy Spirit that what they wrote is inerrant
* d. The very words of Scripture are inspired not just the thoughts communicated - Matthew 5:17-18
* 2. Peter’s love for the disciples of Jesus motivated him to write these two Epistles to them
* B. Peter’s goal for his readers is a mind awakening

II. A Pure Mind Full Awake - 2 Peter 3:1-2 
* A. We are forgetful people and need frequent reminders of the vital truths of God’s Word
* 1. Our minds need to be continually tuned to the Word of God - Ephesians 4:17-18
* 2. Love God with your mind, heart & soul - Matthew 22:37
* B. Two categories of reminders
* 1. The Prophets - 39 books of the Old Testament
* a. They were holy men, inspired of God
* b. God gave a test by which a true prophet may be known - Deuteronomy 18:20-22
* 2. The Apostles - 27 books of the New Testament
* a. What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus? 
* b. Knowing and doing the commands of Christ
