What We Found in Some Historic Asteroid Samples on This Week @NASA
NASA's OSIRIS-REx mission recently returned to Earth with the first samples from an asteroid. On October 11, NASA revealed the contents of the cannister, which contains billions-year-old rock and dust from the asteroid Bennu.
Initial studies of the sample material show evidence of water and high-carbon content – which together could indicate that the building blocks of life on Earth may be found in the rock and dust.
This video explores the significance of the OSIRIS-REx mission and the findings from the initial analysis of the asteroid samples. It also discusses what scientists hope to learn from further study of the samples, and how these findings could impact our understanding of the origins of our solar system and the potential for life beyond Earth
