A Yoruba woman called Carlota Lucumí spearheaded Cuba’s Triunvirato slave rebellion in 1843. Although ultimately brutally suppressed by the colonial overlords, her guts and determination have left a permanent impression on the country - where she is hailed to this day as a symbol of liberation. Indeed, when Cuba fought against the Portuguese and US oppressors in Angola, Havana named its liberation mission Operation Carlota. Have a watch and let us know what you think about this remarkable woman.
