Chief of Police Frankie Hayes experienced a heart attack following a challenging standoff on August 16, 2023. Upon arriving at a volatile scene where a subject was firing at neighbors, officers, and within his residence, Chief Hayes led the team in negotiations for two hours, eventually securing the surrender of the assailant. Shortly after leaving the incident location, Chief Hayes sought medical attention and suffered a double heart attack. He underwent surgical intervention but, sadly, passed away two weeks later. Serving with distinction, Chief Hayes had dedicated nine years to the Goodland Police Department and held the position of Chief of Police for nearly three years. The community remembers him fondly. He leaves a loving family that includes his wife, four children, siblings, and grandchildren.
