The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) was successfully launched on December 25, 2021, atop an Ariane 5 rocket from Europe's spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. This launch marked a significant milestone for the ambitious project, which had faced several delays and challenges over the years.

Following its launch, the JWST began its journey to its designated orbit around the Earth, known as the second Lagrange point (L2), which is located approximately 1.5 million kilometers from Earth. The L2 point provides an optimal vantage point for the telescope to carry out its observations without being affected by the Earth's heat and light.

The launch of the JWST represented the culmination of years of planning, engineering, and international collaboration among NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). The successful deployment of the JWST into space marked the beginning of its mission to revolutionize our understanding of the universe, offering unprecedented insights into the earliest galaxies, stars, and planetary systems, as well as the potential for life beyond our solar system.
