Oregon Board of Education votes to SUSPEND graduation requirements until 2027.
Prior to the pandemic all 11th grade students in Oregon were required to demonstrate competence in essential skills like reading, writing and math through standardized testing OR a PORTFOLIO of work. Students who did not demonstrate proficiency were required to make up their work in their senior year in order to graduate. During the pandemic these requirements were suspended. The Oregon Board of Education hear d testimony and voted again to suspend the basic skills of essential requirements until 2027. WHY??? Because students or color and disabilities are "marginalized". Dru Draper reported from the meeting that the chair of the board compared graduation requirements to syphilis experiments on black men in the mid 1900',s. The ODE continues to give parents a reason to pull their students our of public schools. Another opportunity for school choice petitions to gain momentum and get on the ballot.
