Kurdistan Independence Should Be Welcome Move, But Not Without Complications

A long time coming, this week it is expected the Kurdistan region of Iraq will vote for its independence, laying the groundwork for its complete separation from the Iraqi government ruling from Baghdad. While a triumph for Kurds throughout the Middle East, it may bring with it undesirable ramifications as both Iran and Turkey have signified their intent to block the decision from being a reality. Nonetheless, as a strong ally for the West against the likes of ISIS and having built its own infrastructure, Kurdistan deserves this moment.
