While every epiphytic orchid can be grown using LECA only, some orchids need longer than others to adjust, especially if the environmental conditions are not 100% perfect. Those environmental conditions are temperatures no lower than 20ºC / 68ºF and bright shade for orchids in leca to do well. The evaporative cooling has a negative effect on the orchid's root system IF the ambient temperatures drop below 20ºC / 68ºF. However, lava rock can be used in semi hydroponics as well and does not have the evaporative cooling characteristics, so... for orchids that you are not certain will do well in leca and you want to use inorganic media anyway, then lava rock is a fantastic alternative. #lava #rock #inorganic #repotting #plants #rescue #beginners
