Using Relative Shapes to Play Lead Guitar Over "Slime You Out" by Drake ft. SZA #musictheory #guitar

"Slime You Out" is an interesting song that at first appears like it may be a typical minor key song that we can use the natural minor or Aeolian scale over with easy, and while this scale would work, it doesn't take long for us to realize there is another mode that may work better. In this lesson, we'll take a close look at "Slime You Out" by Drake ft. SZA and break down the best scale shapes for this song while also playing with a couple other scale shapes as we move through the lesson. By the end of the lesson, the goal is to have you playing the best scale shapes on the guitar while also being able to find anchor shapes for your fingers to gravitate back towards as you play so you'll always find yourself in the right spots on the fretboard, regardless of where you're playing. Using anchor shapes, unlocking the fretboard, seeing the fretboard code, and mastering the circular nature of not only the fretboard but also the guitar scale shapes themselves will help you play like a pro! As with all of my tutorials, we're going to take a popular song and break it down so you'll know exactly what you need to either write or improvise some melodic guitar solos over it. Once you're able to move the shapes around, you can then write or improvise these guitar licks over any of your favorite songs, regardless of the key of the song or where you wind up playing guitar solos on the fretboard. Enjoy this lesson, and let me know in the comments what you enjoyed about this one and what you're looking forward to seeing in future lessons.
