Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve

The date we were at the Great sand Dunes was June 18, 2023, it was hot and dry, but there was so much wind that it didn’t feel so bad, and as the clouds would blow by the shade was much appreciated. Snow melt from the Sangre de Cristo Mountains creates the Medano Creek in spring with the highest flow around late May. I honestly believe that this is my favorite natural place that I have ever been to, I was in awe as we were driving up as there is sand everywhere but not at this capacity in one place anywhere close. My wife planned this whole trip to Colorado, and we love our dachsund Ollie so she looked for interesting sites that were dog friendly, and this park is. Seeing everyone enjoying the weather enjoying all sorts of activities was great some were sledding on the sad, flying kites, playing in the water & sand, tumble weeds blowing by, climbing to the top of the dunes, etc. Ollie just enjoyed the sand and water so much.
