Based on data from Global Finance Magazine, Burundi is classified as one of the poorest countries in the world, where 82 percent of the population meets their living needs with just 1.25 dollars or the equivalent of 17,500 rupiah per day. Uniquely, Burundian people measure wealth based on cow ownership. Because of this, Burundian people prefer to have cows rather than money because cows are considered a luxury item.
