Hand-welting Irish Setter Cowboy Boots

This is the first video that I selected to load to Rumble. I initially recorded it to demonstrate the welting process for my Facebook page and didn’t begin narrating until almost five minutes in.

The welt is a strip of leather which encircles the upper of some footwear, to which a midsole is then sewn with a machine. This work isn’t necessary on every resole; this pair of Irish Setters required new leather welts because the factory welts were plastic and began to crack/split apart in several locations. The uppers were in very good shape, so replacing the plastic welts will give many more years of use with every resole.
