In this video, we revisit the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad in Colorado to document more exciting Rocky Mountain railroading on three D&RGW rail lines. We’ll see trains on the Moffat Tunnel route, the Tennessee Pass line, and as a special feature, Burlington Northern, Santa Fe, and Rio Grande on the Joint Line between Denver and Pueblo. All three railroads put on a fantastic show, as mixed freights, coal trains, and intermodal trains are seen doing battle with the steep mountain grades encountered across this territory. We witness helper locomotives giving it their all, as they assist heavy trains over Tennessee Pass and the Joint Line. Rio Grande locomotive models seen include SD9, SD40T-2, SD45, SD50, GP30, GP35, GP40, and GP40-2. Southern Pacific and Cotton Belt locomotives are seen in action as well, with models GP9, GP40-2, SD40T-2, SD45, SD45T-2, and B30-7 making appearances in this program. Other EMD and GE models presented by Santa Fe and Burlington Northern include F45, B23-7, B30-7AB, U30C, U36C, C30-7, GP20, GP35, GP39-2, GP50, SD40, and SD40-2. Highlights of our tour include Tennessee Pass, Minturn, Glenwood Canyon, Palmer Lake, Castle Rock, and Larkspur. (1989)
