Does NASA mine asteroid debris? No, we are not in the asteroids mining business, but we do enjoy studying them.
In order to investigate what appears to be the exposed nickel-iron core of an early planet, one of the components of our solar system, our mission launches to a special metal-rich asteroid this year. However, the knowledge we acquire from missions like these could someday let future humans engage in resource and mining activities in space.
