The Canadians who were born outside of the country and immigrated to Alberta were honoured with the Alberta Newcomer Recognition Awards.

That includes Trushar Patel, who is an associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Lethbridge.

He won for his work in developing targeted therapies for a range of viral infections including Hepatitis B and COVID-19.

The two other Lethbridge winners were; Guillermo Aceytuno the owner of OnSite Auto here in the city who was given the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award and Josephine Naicker a course instructor at the University of Lethbridge who was recognized for the Career & Academics Contribution Award.
