Beyonce and Other Celebrities Who Use Alter Egos

We love when musicians express themselves through an alter ego. Like Beyonce’s Sasha Fierce or Lady Gaga’s Jo Calderone. Now that the Weeknd has announced he’s retiring his iconic stage name, we thought we’d dive into our favorite celebrity monikers.

Soon, we may be calling the Weeknd by his real name, Abel Tesfaye. The artist revealed he’s thinking of closing that chapter of his career. Other artists, like Beyonce, created alter egos like Sasha Fierce later on in their career, to help them express other parts of their personalities. Sometimes it’s about gender; Lady Gaga used Jo Calderone to dip into her masculine side, while Prince used Camille to express his femininity. Sometimes it’s pure performance art, like David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust. Other times, celebrities use different names for their different jobs: like Suga/Agust D from BTS or Childish Gambino/Donald Glover!
