Chandraghanta Puja Vidhi: Tap into Divine Energy #Navratri
Chandraghanta: The 3rd Devi of #navratri #mantra #pujavidhi
Navratri is a festival of nine nights that celebrates the divine feminine energy in Hinduism. Each night is dedicated to a different form of Goddess Durga, who is the supreme manifestation of Shakti, the cosmic power. The third night of Navratri is devoted to Chandraghanta, the goddess who has a half-moon shaped like a bell on her forehead. She is an aspect of Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva, the destroyer and transformer.
Chandraghanta is the third among the nine forms of Durga, also called Navadurga. She represents the fierce and warlike form of the goddess, who is ready to fight against evil and protect her devotees. She is also the goddess of the solar plexus chakra, or Manipura, which is located above the navel and governs the willpower, confidence, and self-esteem. By worshipping Chandraghanta, one can activate the energy at the solar plexus chakra and enhance one's courage, strength, and leadership.
Chandraghanta has a fascinating story that reveals her valor and determination to defend her husband and his honor. In her previous birth, she was Sati, the daughter of Daksha Prajapati, a powerful king and a son of Brahma, the creator god. Sati was deeply in love with Shiva, who was a recluse and an ascetic. She married him against her father's wishes, who despised Shiva for his unconventional ways. Daksha once organized a grand sacrifice and invited all the gods and sages, except Shiva. Sati felt humiliated by her father's insult and decided to attend the sacrifice anyway, hoping to pacify him. However, when she reached there, she saw that her father had not arranged any seat or respect for Shiva. She confronted him and asked him to stop his arrogance and ignorance. Daksha ignored her and continued to abuse Shiva in front of everyone. Sati could not bear the insult of her husband and burnt herself in the fire of the sacrifice, sacrificing her life for her love.
Shiva was enraged by Sati's death and carried her corpse on his shoulder, roaming around the universe in grief and anger. He performed a dance of destruction, called Tandava, which threatened to annihilate the whole creation. The gods were terrified and appealed to Vishnu, the preserver god, to intervene. Vishnu used his discus to cut Sati's body into 51 pieces, which fell on different places on earth. These places are known as Shakti Peethas, or seats of power, where the goddess is worshipped in various forms.
Sati was reborn as Parvati, the daughter of Himavat, the king of the Himalayas. She was named Shailputri, meaning the daughter of the mountain. She had a strong memory of her previous life and was determined to reunite with Shiva. She performed severe penance and meditation to please him and win his heart. She endured many hardships and obstacles in her quest, but never gave up on her love. She also assisted Shiva in his battle against various demons and evil forces that threatened to harm him or disrupt his meditation. She proved her devotion and loyalty to him in every situation and eventually married him with his consent and blessing.
Chandraghanta is derived from two Sanskrit words: Chandra (चन्द्र), meaning "moon", and Ghanta (घंटा), meaning "bell". The name Chandraghanta refers to the half-moon-shaped ornament that Parvati wore on her forehead after marrying Shiva¹. This ornament also symbolizes her role as a protector and a warrior². She is depicted with ten hands and three eyes. She holds a trident, a mace, a sword, a lotus flower, a water pot, a rosary, and a bow and arrow in her eight hands. She displays two gestures with her remaining hands: Abhaya Mudra (fearlessness) and Varada Mudra (blessing)¹. She rides on a tiger or a lion², which signifies her power and courage.
