The author Arthur C. Clarke, during his quest to understand space, downloaded several photos from NASA’s website in 2001, and he was convinced that he had found evidence of life on Mars. He saw "trees" in images from NASA's Mars Global Surveyor, Something on Mars looked so much like trees that they were nicknamed "the banyan trees of Mars.
However, further analysis revealed that the dunes were covered in a thin layer of frozen carbon dioxide. Over time, the wind had eroded the dunes, leaving streaks of dark sand that looked like tree trunks.Show more
