William Howard Taft - Supreme Court Justice and President

After serving as United States President William Howard Taft would go on to serve as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. He is the only person to have ever served in both roles, and he is the only president to have served on the Supreme Court altogether.

William H. Taft is most well-known today for his appearance. He was by far the fattest US President and the last president with facial hair. People also remember when Taft stuck in bathtub (which never actually happened). However, Taft had an impressive career in law and politics. His father, Alphonso Taft had already served as Secretary of War under Ulysses S. Grant. Taft would also serve as Secretary of War, Solicitor General of the United States and a lawyer and judge.

His presidency would form a rift between Taft and Theodore Roosevelt leading to the election of Democrat Woodrow Wilson. As Chief Justice of the Supreme Court he would preside over the inauguration of Herbert Hoover and the inauguration of Calvin Coolidge.
