TRANSCRIPT

In a recent study conducted at the National University of Singapore, researchers found that consuming just a few handfuls of grapes daily over four months can significantly improve key indicators of eye health in older adults.

This improvement may be attributed to the high antioxidant content of grapes, as oxidative stress plays a substantial role in age-related eye degeneration. The study involved 34 participants who consumed 1.5 cups of grapes daily or a placebo for 16 weeks. Those who consumed grapes exhibited increased macular pigment optical density (MPOD), plasma antioxidant capacity, and total phenolic content compared to the placebo group.

These findings provide valuable insights into the potential protective effects of grape consumption against age-related eye health issues, particularly in enhancing MPOD. With the aging population growing, this study marks an exciting breakthrough in promoting eye health through a simple dietary addition.
