October 15, 2023, Romans 12:3-8, "Two Gifts: Salvation and ..." (Full)

Romans 12:3-8, Paul mentions 3 things: the proper attitude, relationship, and service towards God. There is no such thing as worship by divorce from service.

[spiritual gift versus natural talent]
Romans 12:3, not to think anyone is superior to other members in the church, since all things work together
1 Peter 4:10, the spiritual gift: a spiritual proficiency or skill given to the believer through the Holy Spirit to build and edify the church
1 Corinthians 12:11, spiritual gifts are given by the sovereign God- the believer does NOT chose their gift by their own reasons/opinions/lusts
1 Corinthians 12:13, spiritual gifts are NOT given based on a believer's existing merits (or natural talents) or standing
1 Corinthians 12:18, everyone is important to God, since all things work together
1 Corinthians 12:7-11, to build and edify the church
1 Corinthians 12:20-25, there is no hierarchy

[temporary gifts (sign gifts)]
Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, miracles were done to confirm the prophecies
Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, healing works
1 Corinthians 14:2, unknown tongue (singular) or speaking in mystery
Matthew 16:18, Jesus speaking in a mystery (which means it was not yet to be revealed, but would be revealed shortly) about the ekklésia (church), since the only concept of the assembly was the synagogue before the resurrection of Christ
1 Corinthians 14:4, the counterfeit ability of man to speak in an unknown tongue; no one "speaks in tongues" (singular unknown tongue) today, and if they do, they only do it for themself and not for the edification of God's church- that is an example of man's desire to control others (demonic behavior)
Acts 2:1-8, the legitimate phenomena of "speaking in tongues" (plural), where the Holy Spirit came and took residence, and while everyone was speaking in their own language, they were able to understand one another
Hebrews 2:3-4, the interpretation of language given to establish the word of God (there was no complete bible back then)
1 Corinthians 13:8, the old things have come to completion, therefore the sign gifts have ended, and the church has been established (when apostle John (the revelator) died, the apostolic age ended)

[the spiritual verbal gifts]
prophecy (Revelation 19:10): ability to proclaim God's work effectively (examples: preachers and evangelists do not add or subtract from God's word), and there are NO new prophets added to God's word today
knowledge (ginóskó): knowledge through experience (word in action)
wisdom: applied knowledge (example: teaching)
teaching: ability to teach the "children"
exhortation

[the spiritual non-verbal gifts]
administration: managerial/custodial abilities
leadership: ministry and leading by example
helps: general service
giving: charity (real charity is not depletion or theft, for God sustains)
mercy: helping others in affliction
faith: prayer, endurance, and intercession (strong trust in God, which goes beyond saving faith)
discernment: ability to recognize lying spirits and false doctrines, which requires extraordinary diligence in God's word

1 Corinthians 12:11-12, how the verbal and non-verbal gifts are given and then expressed by those who received them
2 Timothy 1:6, stirring up the gift of God within everyone
