Why gene therapy was never brought to market before: Caused cancer, lethal auto-immune disease

1. Caused lethal auto-immune effects
2. Caused latent cancers that didn’t appear for 2-4 years after the gene therapy was given
3. Concern that the gene therapy would be passed on to progeny and cause a contamination of the gene pool. If it was known that the gene therapy went to the testes, the recipient would be sterilized or coerced to sign that they would use lifelong barrier contraception.
