HAVE YOU HEARD OF THE DRAGONS AND GIANTS OF BASEL SWITZERLAND?

The dragons, giants and "Three Ages of Life" myths and legends in Basel, Switzerland

We visited Basel and were amazed at the amounts of dragons, both small and large we saw as statues, fountains and other artworks. In addition, there are pieces pointing to the ancient ages when giants roamed the earth. Yes, Basel, Switzerland is a very interesting city to visit! We were there to watch a FC Basel match and got sucked into some amazing myths and legends of Switzerland.

It all started soon after we left our hotel and came across a water fountain, with a mini dragon as the main sculpture on the base. We later learned that these small dragons are called the Basilisks. There is a fascinating legend about the last, almost hatching of a Basilisk egg from the 1400's:

"When a jet-black rooster laid a giant oblong egg in the middle of town in 1474, the city residents knew that a terrible monster was sure to hatch...
