Al Stewart, born in Glasgow on September 5, 1945, is a British singer and songwriter.
Al Stewart made himself known with long, intimate ballads. For several albums, ignoring the reproaches, the Scotsman plowed his personal furrow, signing some remarkable folk songs as light as they were introspective. In the early 1970s, when Stewart found a new favorite theme, history, his music moved towards an attractive progressive soft rock. After ten years of semi-obscurity, the general public discovered the fragile tone of Al Stewart in 1976 with his FM rock hit, Year Of The Cat. A few titles in the same vein ensured his success until the beginning of the 1980s. Since then, he has recorded albums from time to time which are released with the greatest discretion.
