Went out to catch some Arctic grayling and ended up with a very tasty rainbow trout catch and cook day catching one rainbow after another. Beautiful views, great fishing and a very yummy Catch N' Cook!

TROUT FISHING TIPS AND TECHNIQUES:

The rainbow trout hit on Berkley Powerbait Mice Tails with a white head and pink tail. These rainbowS had recently been stocked in the lake which is why the hit on the power-bait. Wild trout will typically not eat bait such as power bait but stocked trout are used to eating pellets as they are raised in trout farms so keep that in mind when you are fishing as to if the trout are wild or stocked because it will make all the difference in the bait you choose to use.

We spent a full day fishing high in the Wasatch Mountains in Utah County far up the American Fork Canyon at a beautiful high altitude mountain lake.

FROM THE UTAH DWR:

Description: Silver Lake Flat Reservoir is located up American Fork Canyon, just a few miles past Tibble Fork Reservoir. The three-mile stretch of dirt road to Silver Lake Flat is a little bumpy. Water is drawn from the reservoir throughout the summer (typically during the month of July) until it reaches the mandated conservation pool level. At this time the reservoir is much smaller, fish are more concentrated in the 100 acre-feet of water that is left in the reservoir basin the rest of the year.

Notes: Very pretty day use area and a little less crowded than Tibble Fork Reservoir. This area is prettiest before August when the reservoir is likely to be very low and drawn down for irrigation purposes. No camping allowed within 1/2 mile of the reservoir.

Location: Located up American Fork Canyon, approximately 3 miles past Tibble Fork and the entrance to Granite Flat Campground.

Directions: Take UT-144 for 2.5 miles up North Fork of American Fork Canyon, turn left onto FR-010 towards Granite Flat Reservoir for 0.7 miles and then right onto FR-008/Silver Lake Flat Road. Travel on this road for 2.5 miles and the destination will be on your right.

Fishing Regulations:
General Regulations: Anglers may possess a daily limit of 4 fish, anglers can catch fish using flies, bait and lures and there are no size restrictions on the fish they catch.

Likely to catch: Arctic Grayling, Brook Trout, Cutthroat Trout/Bonneville, Rainbow Trout
