There is no shortage of LED alarm clocks but at £19.99 this one from XREXS is rather different as well as being one of the best I have yet tried.
In the attractive box, you get the clock itself, a USB-A to USB-C power cable, a UK power adapter and a well written and easy to read user guide.
The clock is nice and simple to use with a large, bright, clear LED front panel display, a range of proper clicky buttons on the top and dials on the side for clock and nightlight brightness. On the front below the clock display is the full length colour light strip. On the rear are the speaker grill, USB-C port, alarm volume dial and battery compartment. The clock has two AAA backup batteries preinstalled but is powered through the USB-C charging port. The batteries are to preserve data only and cannot power the display. It comes with a well printed and easy to read user guide and a medium length standard USB power cable. Build quality is excellent and although rather lightweight, the clock feels robust enough for extended daily use.
Setting the clock is easy enough, all the buttons are large, easy to operate and clearly marked. Here you can configure the time, the two separate alarms, and select from the range of alarm sounds on offer. There are fifteen sounds available and although small the sound from the built-in speaker is excellent with none of the alarms sounding harsh or tinny. Here you can also select the nightlight option you require
When the alarm is set the large snooze button on the top can be easily found to temporarily silence the alarm sound to snooze for about nine minutes. Press any other top panel button to stop the alarm completely. The clock and nightlight dials on the side can also be quickly found and adjusted even when half asleep.
The display shows the time, date, day, current temperature and alarm status. The clock display can be set to 12 or 24-hour formats and has a Daylight Saving Time quick adjustment button, a feature I have never seen before. The RGB mood lighting nightlight strip is below the clock display and is separately controlled.
The main selling point for this clock has to be the clock display itself. It has no less than 10 colour display options for the clock and 7 selectable nightlight colour patterns. Both display sets are not just for solid colours as three separate colour morphing options are included. Another selling point has to be the range of audio alarm options, and no less than 15 well recorded types are available ranging from the standard beeper to a crowing rooster.
For what it does, this is a great little clock. It looks good, sounds good and is easy to use. On the other hand, it is missing some features such as the radio, and battery power option found on many rivals. However, it does what it does very well and it includes some unusual features that makes it a very decent buy.
