It’s remarkable how people push the limits of what is possible. Felix Baumgartener jumps from space. Others speed through the air in wingsuits. And then, of course, Kloof St has its longboarders; they go so fast they trigger the traffic camera. A while ago I sat watching the luge on TV. I started thinking of Kloof St and those longboarders. I imagined how there’s someone who glides down Signal Hill St and into Kloof St using his own modified luge method. A method Sanka and Derice would approve of! A person who goes about his business in a nonchalant fashion. A person of extreme bravery. An unsung hero. Unfortunately, the names Koos and Wikus had already been taken. But, L.L had not. And so, L.L. van der Merwe was born:
