The civilizational war

The civilizational war, between Islam and everyone else, might have broken out at last. Muhammad called for it as long as he lived, and that calling follows logically from Muslim founding documents. Khaled Mashal, head of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Arabic Harakah al-Muqāwamah al-Islāmiyyah, abbreviated HAMAS), probably thinks he is the next Prophet. He definitely has started something that will force all Westerners – and Jews everywhere – to choose their sides. Those who think he didn’t do it, and that the entire drama is a Kabuki horror show, must think again. For in protesting the idea of going to war, or helping those under immediate attack to defend themselves, they invite civilizational collapse and defeat. The consequences of that will not be pleasant.

Khaled Mashal literally called on Muslims everywhere to rise up against societies where they are resident – tomorrow (Friday, October 13). Those living in countries bordering Israel, he called on to form armies to erase the Jewish state from the planet.

Earlier today came a report that an attempt to discredit evidence of HAMAS atrocities in the Negev ended in failure. Footage that Donald Trump Jr. shared, that he sourced from inside Israel, drew an accusation that it was old. It wasn’t – it turned out to be authentically from the first day (October 7). (Evidently the fact-checker couldn’t understand Farsi and definitely didn’t understand the Persian calendar – if he wasn’t lying deliberately.)
Evidence of atrocities – and how HAMAS treats its own civilians
CNBC and ABC each maintains a live-update page. At last report, the Israel Foreign Ministry at last furnished authentic pictures of 40 babies, some headless, most burned, that they recovered from Kibbutz Kfar Aza, a quarter-mile from the Israel-Gaza border in the Negev. Several apologists for HAMAS, among them the Turkish news agency Anadolu, denied that the Israelis had any evidence. Then HAMAS itself denied ordering any atrocities and said it gave orders to “[try] to avoid harming them.” Faced with that, the Israel Foreign Ministry furnished three of the worst pictures in a post.

Three faiths, each with its own civilization
Recall this description of the three Abrahamic faiths and how they differ. Besides their founding documents, each faith has its own rules about the tolerance of those of other faiths. Christianity today is the most tolerant of all, on the theory that one must come to Christ willingly for that decision to have any meaning. Judaism does not seek converts, but holds itself to be one big family. (That’s why many consider Jews a race apart from other races.) But Jews recognize notable exceptions to this rule. The two most important converts to Judaism in the history of that faith are:
1. Rahab or Rechab, the temple prostitute in Jericho who pledged to follow the God of Joshua and his spies, and
2. Ruth, a Moabite who married an Israelite and, after he died, followed her mother-in-law back to Israel.
Islam tolerates nothing and no one other than fellow Muslims. A Muslim knows only two great “houses” that include all of humanity. He calls them the House of Submission (Dar al-Islam) and the House of War (Dar al-Harb).
History of civilizational warfare
The history of the three civilizations that depend on these faiths is one of intermittent civilizational warfare. Muslims captured Jerusalem, in a break from their wider war against the Eastern Roman or Byzantine Empire. Abd al-Malik built the Dome of the Rock on the site of the Jewish Temple, to do two things:
1. Spite the Jews, and
2. Set himself up as the Mayor of a city other than Mecca to which Muslims could make pilgrimages.
(Jeroboam I, who did the same thing with his Golden Calves of Tel-Bethel and Tel-Dan, would no doubt be envious.)
Then his successor made a mistake: he destroyed the original Church of the Holy Sepulchre. So Pope Urban IX called for the series of four civilizational wars we call the Crusades. They all failed – perhaps because Crusader kings treated the Jews badly.
Nevertheless, a Jewish population has always existed in Jerusalem since King David made that city his capital. This holds, whether Jews actually controlled Jerusalem and the land called Israel, or not.
The original Zionists, with Theodor Herzl leading them, bought the land from its Turkish absentee landlords. Those men laughed all the way to the bank, thinking they had sold useless land to gullible Jews. But the Jews proved them wrong. Eventually Arabs came to the land – for work. These are the Arabs who, under Grand Mufti Haj Amin al-Husseini, carried out earlier slaughters of Jews. They also made common cause with Adolf Hitler and his National Socialists.
The civilizational struggle continues
In fact, the Holocaust might not have been, if not for the Grand Mufti. The doing of the Holocaust was Hitler’s, but the idea was al-Husseini’s. Hitler initially only wanted the Jews out of the “pure Aryan Europe” he sought to build. He was going to deport them – to the Middle East. This is exactly what the Grand Mufti did not want. So he prevailed upon Hitler to exterminate the Jews instead of deporting them.
Six million Jews (and four million Gentiles) died as a result, before the Allies conquered Germany. Hitler took refuge in a deep hole in the ground, and there he killed himself. The Grand Mufti made his way to Cairo, then returned to “British Mandatory Palestine” to continue his opposition to any arrangement accommodating the Jews of the world in any way, shape or form. Eventually he took part in an “All-Palestine Government,” seated in Gaza. Few Arab states recognized this government, and eventually Jamal abd al-Nasr of Egypt dissolved it. He faded into obscurity before his cousin – Yasser Arafat, founder of the Palestine Liberation Organization.
This, then, explains every action by HAMAS and its leader. If Khaled Mashal does not see himself as successor to Muhammad, he almost certainly sees himself as successor to Haj Amin al-Husseini.
A bid for power
Now one can understand why Khaled Mashal sought help in beginning the present war. But one must understand something else: the Dar al-Islam and Dar al-Harb dichotomy clearly indicates that a fundamentalist Muslim regards all non-Muslims as sub-human. Khaled Mashal and his HAMAS organization are among the most fundamentalist of Muslims. And very likely he has the backing of a patron with $6 billion to spend. So when he declares war on the non-Muslim world, that world ignores him at its peril. Already he has taken Israeli lives in triple the proportion of lives lost on September 11, 2001.
This is why this war is civilizational. Khaled Mashal has violated every norm of Christian or Jewish civilization – but throughout, he has adhered to Muslim civilizational norms. Under no circumstances can anyone negotiate with this man. The leaders of Israel have sworn to eliminate him and his movement. If this does not happen, let the reader remember another thing Muslims routinely tell themselves: “First Saturday, then Sunday.” First the Jews, then the Christians.
Neither Jew nor Christian started this war. Muhammad actually started it 1400 years ago. Now three civilizations have clashed. If Muslim civilization wins, the “open-air prison” will be the reality for Jew and Christian alike. The atrocities HAMAS committed, before the IDF penned them back up in Gaza, are a mere taste of what they intend for the rest of the world. So the rest of the world must not let this happen.
