Cathedral - Soul Sacrifice [EP] (1992) ⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2
An amazing little EP. The title track is essentially a faster paced version of the same track found on the previous year's debut. This song serves as an excellent introduction to the hypnotic groove of the second track "Autumn Twilight." While each of the songs have their characteristics on display, the second song here is among some of the greatest doom metal I have ever heard. The slower than mid-paced detuned chug underneath that haunting melody is perfectly executed, and stands as the most memorable part of the EP. "Frozen Rapture" foreshadows some of the Stoner/Groove elements that would come later in the bands career. "Golden Blood (Flooding)" is probably the weakest track here, but it is still pretty good. The transitions on this track seem forced. The only thing keeping me from giving this 5 stars is that it is such a short EP, and I wish it was longer.
