WORLD NEWS THE SECOND BATTLE OF SARDARAPAT LOOMS, WHICH COULD SPARK GLOBAL CONFLICT

Straight Talk from the Homeland #31: at a time of starvation and refugees from the #Armenian genocide, some Armenians wanted to give up being faced by threats from the Ottoman #Turks, and the betrayal of the #Russians while they retreated post-1917. However, some brave Armenian leaders, including the Catholicos at the time, decided to defend the Homeland.

The Battle of Sardarapat saved the fledgling nation of #Armenia from annihilation during May 1918, with Armenians bravely defeating the Ottoman Turks, despite being outnumbered three to one. But many lessons can be learnt from this period, including the failure of the #UnitedStates Congress to defend Armenia, after President Wilson's Arbitral Award.

Today we again see Russian betrayal, with direct threats to Armenia, and support of #Azerbaijan's ethnic cleansing of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh). The Kremlin's shameful 'peacekeepers' even gave Azerbaijan military secrets and extorted money from the locals under an illegal siege, while the world looked on in relative silence.

For its part, Azerbaijan's genocidal ethnic cleansing continued its war crimes from the First Armenian genocide, such as that perpetrated at Shushi in 1920 when 20,000 Armenians were killed, with reports of massacres in northern Artsakh villages and brutal ethnic cleansing after an attack on 19 September 2023.

Once again, the United States and its allies let Armenia down by failing to prevent the latest genocide, and by even foolishly advocating that the democratic people of Artsakh could live in North Korea-like Azerbaijan, despite Artsakh having more rights than Kosovo to independence!

The international 'rules based order' died with the US State Department backing the self-interest of #Israel, which was shamefully supplying arms to a genocidal state in an attempt to start a proxy war from Azerbaijan with #Iran. The #Palestinian - Israeli conflict in the past few days has resulted in massive media coverage and outrage, even of the #Gaza blockade, while in contrast the media, the #UN and even the #Vatican remained passive or silent, while 120,000 #Christians were starved by an illegal blockade [as determined by the International Court of Justice) for ten months and ethnically cleansed.

It seems that humans haven't learnt anything from the past century of wars, colonisation and division. The world now faces even more conflict, and the possibility of regional or even global war if the Israel conflict widens, or Azerbaijan commences another war that draws in other major powers, or China takes note of Azerbaijan's use of force to solve political issues with #Taiwan.

The possibility of an ever-widening conflict because major powers in the USA and Europe failed to take a stand on human rights, the defence of democracy and the right of self-determination for geopolitics and greed for petrochemicals sends a terrible signal of appeasement to the world's authoritarian leaders. Life on this planet is very fragile, and we may be the only intelligent life in the universe after billions of years in the making. The errors made regarding #Artsakh must be corrected, otherwise it will not just be Armenia facing an existential threat, but humanity itself.
