I love happen films video, and this one was a great one. However, something about my spidey sense was tingling on this one...

Now, something else I didn't even get into was the power required to manufacture and then also run bEartha itself. Again, while I definitely commend these people for taking up arms in the climate challenge, we need to make sure that we are spending our efforts on things that actually will make a difference.

So is bEartha a bad idea? Absolutely not. When run off a green grid (this is step 1 for local governments and politicians, clean up the grid), this can absolutely be a net improvement over food in landfills. However, it's the details that matter. How does the food get to bEartha? How much energy does bEartha use? Where does that energy come from?

The answers to these questions will determine if something like this is worth doing. Local community dropping compost off at a central community garden where bEartha is housed (i.e. lining up their trip to drop the compost off, with a trip that they would do otherwise), that's worthwhile. Collecting on an E-bike? That's worthwhile. Collecting in an old van? Not worthwhile, and doing more harm than good - by a decent margin.

Lets get into the math of collecting food waste for compost.

As we'll find out, how we collect it matters just as much as what we are doing with it.
