There are many aspects of technique to master with the bowing arm:
• Legato
• Détaché
• Martelé
• tremolo
• Spiccato
• Flying spiccato
• Staccato
• Stiff arm staccato – up and (God forbid!) down bow
• Flying staccato
• Sautillé
• Ricochet
• Con Legno (though this is very rare)
• Plucking or pizzicato
And with the left arm:
• Vibrato
• Double, triple and quadruple stops
• Harmonics – natural and false
• Dynamics – soft, loud and 'hairpins', nuances
• Left hand pizzicato
And combined:
• Bowing one melody line and plucking another with the left hand!
