I'm I Racist Beause I Put My Nation First?

There has been much debate lately over nationalism and whether putting one's own country and compatriots above others is inherently racist or xenophobic. Some argue that having pride in one's nation and wanting to prioritize its well-being is natural and does not necessarily mean discriminating against other countries. Others contend that nationalism has historically led to harm, oppression, and violence against marginalized groups both within and outside national borders.
In this video, we'll explore the complexities around nationalism and patriotism. Is there a way to healthily celebrate and take care of our home countries without resorting to harmful prejudices? Can nation-based identities co-exist with our common humanity? Does the phrase "putting one's nation first" need to imply harm to others, or could it mean cultivating national cultures and values with respect for all?
I'll share perspectives from both sides of this issue and my own thoughts on whether nationalism and universal human ethics can align. There are good-faith arguments on all sides, as well as extremists distortions. My goal is to discuss this nuanced issue in a thoughtful, non-polemic manner. I don't claim to have the definitive answer, but I hope this video provides food for consideration. Let me know your take in the comments below!
