"Project Blue Beam" is a long-standing conspiracy theory. Canadian investigative journalist Serge Monast first talked about the theory in the mid-1990s. He claimed that the project was created by agents of the Pentagon and the NASA.

In 1994, Monast alleged that the United Nations and NASA were aiming to create "new age religion". Monast was arrested twice in 1995 and 1996. He died of heart-attack.

After his death, the theory remained popular but there was no evidence to substantiate the allegations.
